Career Highlight: Launched Little Simon Inspirations, a faith-based children's book imprint.

Challenge

To develop a line of religious children's books for the general trade.

Action

Researched the genre, outlined a five-year novelty and storybook program, and secured the endorsement of Max Lucado, a best-selling Christian book author in the general trade and the CBA market, for the entire publishing line.

Results

  • Created the first trade religious line of any general trade publisher.
  • Publication in Spring 2005.
  • First print quantities of 50,000 each.
  • Max Lucado's endorsement appears on the front covers and his personal note to reader appears on the back covers.
  • Features artwork of high-quality, picture book illustrators.

"Simon & Schuster will also be revving up for the children's religion market, debuting its Little Simon Inspirations imprint in Spring 2005. Cindy Eng, V-P and Editorial Director of Little Simon Books and Little Simon Inspirations, said that the line is "meant to introduce faith to kids as well as to refresh traditions for families who have let them slip." Bestselling author Max Lucado, whose editorial assistant Karen Hill is writing two Little Simon Inspirations titles, will write forewords for the books; frontlist illustrators include Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher, and backlist titles will include works by Cynthia Rylant, Joan Walsh Anglund and Rachel Field."
